Canvas Stretching is the process of mounting the printed canvas onto a
frame so you can hang it on a wall. Stretcher bars come in 3/4" and 1.5".
Larger frames are usually stretched on the 1.5" as they need to be stronger
to support the canvas weight.
Pricing is based on what is called the united inch. This is one width plus
one height of your frame. For example, a 30" X 40" frame would
be 70 united inches.
Stretching on the 3/4" bars is $1.00 / united inch
Stretching on the 1.5" bars is $1.25 / united inch
The sides of the stretched canvas often have a gallery wrap. This is where
the print is printed larger than the frame and it wraps around on all sides.
There are 2 common methods of gallery wrapping. The most popular method is
the mirror gallery wrap. We mirror all 4 sides so that it blends evenly
around the frame but without having to lose any of the image from the front.
The second method is to simply print the image larger than the frame and the
image wraps around. This method is not used as much as you lose some of
the image's content to the sides, effectively cropping the image.
Extra canvas is needed on the sides and the back for the staples.
Typically we add an extra 2" on each side for the 3/4" bars and 3" for the 1.5"
bars. For example, a 24" x 18" on 3/4" bars would be 28" x 22" of canvas.
A 40" x 30" on the 1.5" bars would be 46" x 36" of canvas.
